City Of Bones *Review*

City Of Bones
By: Cassandra Clare

Product Description:

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Well after reading all the mixed reviews about this series I wasn't sure whether I should try it or not. I heard many things about how the story was too much like Harry Potter, since the author originally wrote Harry Potter fan fiction. This fact though doesn't bother me and if it doesn't bother you then you should definitely give this book a chance. This book is definitely a hit or miss with most people. For me, it's more of a hit.

The book is written in 3rd person, though I usually prefer 1st. It revolves mostly around Clary Fray, a name that I'm not too fond of and can use some work. Clary is pretty border-line Mary Sue, but she's not as bad as some characters I've read about. She's generally I nice character to follow the story around.

The story itself jumps around a lot, but I never seemed to mind it too much. The author creates a interesting world that I can't help, but want to read about. I, for one overall liked the main characters, though their will always be the "their copies of Harry Potter characters argument" sadly. Hopefully the author will go more in detail and give us more depth with the secondary characters like Alec and Isabelle in the next two books. Overall it's an enjoyable series that has it's flaws, but I'm willing to give the next book a try to see where it goes. I also didn't mind the twist in the end, like some people. I'd really like to see where the author is going with the twist that was strange and altogether probably not wanted by most fans.

  Overall Rating: 7/10
It's worth a try, so atleast borrow it from your local library or a friend.

*I'm currently reading the second book and will hopefully finish it soon!
